Maclaren U.S.A. Inc., a South Norwalk, Connecticut-based unit of a U.K. company and a leading maker of baby strollers and carriages is recalling about 1 million umbrella strollers sold in the U.S. after receiving reports of 15 injuries from children placing their finger in the stroller’s hinge, resulting in 12 fingertip amputations in the U.S. An increasing number of injuries related to Maclaren strollers over the past two years prompted this important recall.

Following an investigation, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled nine models of the single and double umbrella Maclaren strollers. Maclaren strollers have been sold in the U.S. since 1999 at Target and Babies R Us stores. The fingertip amputation can occur when a child’s finger is placed in the hinge mechanism of the Maclaren stroller while the stroller is being unfolded. When the opened Maclaren stroller locks into place, it can result in laceration or amputation, cutting off the tip of the child’s finger.

Parents, babysitters, and child guardians should be on alert for this serious risk of injury to children during the opening and closing of the Maclaren stroller. Manufactured in China, the Maclaren stroller recall includes the following nine models:

  • Maclaren Easy Traveller Stroller
  • Maclaren Quest Mod Stroller
  • Maclaren Quest Sport Stroller
  • Maclaren Techno XT Stroller
  • Maclaren TechnoXLR Stroller
  • Maclaren Triumph Stroller
  • Maclaren Twin Techno Stroller
  • Maclaren Twin Triumph Stroller
  • Maclaren Volo Stroller
